Are teachers ready to teach in the information society? – An international perspective (Abstract)

Dr Joke Voogt is Associate Professor at the Department of Curriculum Design and Educational Evaluation of the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences, University of Twente, The Netherlands. Her research focuses on innovative uses of Information and Communication Technology in the curriculum. Her national and international research projects have included studies on the integration of ICT in the science and language arts curriculum, the use of web environments to support teacher learning, the evaluation of innovative uses of information technology in primary, secondary and teacher education. She is editor-in-chief of the International Handbook of Information Technology in Primary and Secondary Education. Dr. Voogt was an advisor of the International Coordination Centre of the Second Information Technology in Education Study (SITES), Module 1 and 2006, and was a member of the International Co-ordination Centre of Module 2 of SITES.

Researching Information Technology in Education (Abstract)

Professor of Information Technology in Education in The Dental Institute and The Department for Education and Professional Studies: King's College London, University of London and Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne
For more than 35 years Margaret Cox has developed educational software, researched the impact of IT on teaching and learning in all education sectors, and trained teachers to become IT teachers in secondary schools. She has directed many national and international research and development projects on the effects of IT on teaching and learning in schools and higher education and is currently directing a large interdisciplinary project (hapTEL) to develop and evaluate the use of haptics in dental education. She has advised many national and international bodies on the impact of IT in education, including the UK, US, Dutch, Brunei, German, Portuguese, French and Chinese governments. Her public output includes many software titles, books, research reports, journal articles and videos; and keynote speeches in many different countries. Recent publications include, editor of the section: “Researching IT in Education” of the International Handbook for IT in Primary and Secondary Schools (Edited by Voogt & Knezek) and author of the chapter on England in the publication Cross-National ICT Policies and Practices in Education (Editors - Plomp, Anderson, Law, & Quale). Her experience and interests include researching IT in education, teachers’ and learners’ motivation and many other aspects of the uptake and use of new technologies in education and its implications for policy makers, professionals and practitioners.

The digital challenges of school and teacher education - Some urgent questions and some search for answers within pedagogy and didactics. (Abstract)

Dr. Rune Krumsvik is associate professor at the University of Bergen (Norway) and head of the research group Digital Learning Communities. He is the Editor of the international anthology "Learning in the Network Society and the Digitized school" (2009) and has a special research focus towards digital competence, digital didactics, ICT in teacher education and ICT and school development. He has published several articles within these fields and is one of the Editors of the forthcoming spesial issue of the journal Technology, Pedagogy and Education.
